"The Pitter-patter of Big Feet" not only details those horrific years in vivid color and emotion, it's a self-help book, too. Darlene didn't just suffer at the hands of her mentally instable, alcoholic mother, she also endured years of brutal sexual abuse by a man she thought was her father. What she didn't know, was that her father didn't even know she existed - yet. There were many abusers in Darlene's childhood; most of which came into her life through the welcoming arms of her narcissistic mother who either benefited monetarily or socially. Darlene always knew that there had to be a reason that she lived through Hell and come through it so well. Part of her recovery came through writing the book itself. When she realized the healing power she was able to harness through her own studying and writing, she became driven to share her recovery with the millions of other children and adults who have suffered similar lives. That's the real purpose behind "The Pitter-patter of Big Feet." That doesn't take away from the bizarre twists and turns and a constant flow of surprises that keep you reading "The Pitter-patter of Big Feet" until the wee hours of the morning.
